Meet Natalie Joyce

Natalie in the 1920's

Natalie Joyce was a silent screen star who appeared in more than forty movies. She was Olive's cousin and close friend (their mothers were sisters). They worked together in the 1929 melodrama
Dance Hall. Natalie was born on November 6, 1902 in Norfolk, Virginia. Her real name was Natalie Marie Johnson. She was educated in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she attended the Third Board School and St. Mary's Academy. Natalie had two brothers and five very talented sisters. Performing as The Joyce Sisters they sang in musical revues and appeared in the Ziegfeld Follies. Natalie began her movie career making two-reel comedies at Al Christie studios. In 1925 she was named one of the Wampas Baby stars. She started getting bigger roles usually being cast as a vamp. Natalie made two films with cowboy legend Tom Mix - The Circus Ace and Daredevil's Reward. Although her performances got good reviews she never achieved stardom. She once claimed she wasn't more successful because "I won't put out". Her career suffered with the transition to sound films. In 1932 she decided to retire from acting. Her final role was playing an actress in the drama Police Court. She was happily married to William Morris Pryce Jr. They raised their children and lived a quiet life away from the spotlight in San Diego. On November 9, 1992 Natalie died three days after celebrating her 90th birthday. Her husband passed away four months later.
